The Hedy Lamarr Road Rally is happening on the 4th, starting in Austin - let’s get some Oppo people to participate.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’ve got the day off, so there’s a 100% chance I will be there if I can find a co-driver (co-driver pending). Would be nice if some other Oppo people showed up or participated.

Wow. Both of us at 12:05. Great minds think alike.

Each car must have at least two people old enough to read
Ok, but w hat about Jeeps?
(I kid, no way I can make it, but sounds lovely.) (And Hedy, what an amazing woman.)
There was a company in southern Indiana/Ohio that used to organize similar events, including rallies for 4x4 vehicles on remote back roads with water crossings. Those were a great time, was a sad day when they stopped running the events.

I have nothing to add to your Oppo meet, except that I once got pulled over by a police office on Lime Creek Road in Austin while I was doing a very bad thing and he was surprisingly chill

I was there with a group of like minded friends and 3-4 of us got “pulled over” at the end of a bonsai run (one person was sighted for no plate, two more of us parked close enough together that our lack of front plates went unnoticed).
Luckily the cop wasn’t around for the middle section of the run where the offenses would have been much worse. He pulled up while we were parked, catching our breath and waiting for the rest of the group to make it down.

I did 70 past a cop a told him that I was just following another driver and figured it was okay, since I wasn’t from around there . He told me that he was only there because of complaints about motorcyclists and didn’t really want to cite cars, but that he’d give me a ticket if he ever saw me again.

That’s an amazing road, though.

I enjoyed it, not as much as the twisted sisters (I have but will never publish videos of those runs, at least not until the expiration of a few statutes of limitations).
I went there once as part of the 86 day festivities. One of my friends organized the event and he was the only person there I knew. So of course, I get put in the first group with him and a couple of local guys (the lead car held class lap records at Harris Hill). I blindly followed my friend at a pace that was sufficient enough to catch up a group of motorcyclists twice and still necessitated a half-hour wait for the next group at the finish area.
I don’t normally drive anywhere near that fast on the road, that’s what all the autox and trackdays are for. I’m not too disappointed that this year’s festivities fell through. I feel like I’ve completely outgrown those types of antics. Once you’ve gotten used to pushing yourself for every last tenth on the track, you cannot get much thrill on the street without being reckless (I refuse to endanger others on the street).

I totally get that. Fucking up on that road has very real consequences, which is kind of the fun part. It’s one thing to slide around a corner, but another to know you’re “this” close to going into the river.
I was done once
I saw the number of bicyclists around Mount Bonnel. I don’t mind taking my chances hitting a tree, but I definitely don’t want to accidentally hit someone on a bike.
